Description
A quart pewter mug (American, Newport, 1769-1787) made by either Joseph Belcher Sr. (1729-1778) or Joseph Belcher Jr. (1751- ca. 1787). The mug has a solid double scrolled handle with a leaf-like decoration along the upper surface, which is cast directly to the body of the mug with a fish tail terminal. The interior has fine, distinct linen marks. The interior is marked at center with an oval touch-mark that contains a bird in profile and the name "JOSEPH" written around the edge.
