Description
An engraved portrait titled "Anne Hunter" (French, c. 1800) by an unknown artist, after a 1797 painted miniature. The subject, Anne Hunter de Palezieux-Falconnet (1766-1859), is depicted at bust length, facing forward. Her hair is worn high and tied with a ribbon. She wears a low-cut diaphanous empire waist gown. Anne Hunter was the daughter of William and Deborah Hunter, and the sister of Sen. William Hunter, the former owner of Hunter House. The oval portrait is housed in a small gold stained frame decorated with a painted floral design and beading around the edge. A paper label adhered to the back of the frame is inscribed "ANNE HUNTER / née le 10 Avril 1766, à Newport (Rhode Island) / mariée en 1790 / à Jean-Louis-Théodore de PALÈZIEUX-FALCONNET / morte à Paris, le 21 Décembre 1859 / (Cette miniature a été peinte en 1797)."
