Description
A silver dessert spoon (American, Newport, early 18th century) made by Samuel Vernon (American, 1683-1737). The spoon has a wide elliptical bowl with a long molded rat-tail drop on the reverse. The end of the handle is engraved on the reverse with the monogram “M+P” over “S+S”, toward the bowl on the handle the spoon is partially impressed with the touch mark “SV” in a heart shaped punch.
