Description
A Chinoiserie-decorated black lacquer and gold tea box (Chinese, 1750-1800) of rectangular form with a hinged lid, brass bail side handles, and a central brass lock plate. The front depicts a scene of a man and woman at a gaming table outside, the top a pair of frolicking fu-dogs, the sides floral bouquets with insects, and the back with a still life dominated by a flower-filled urn, each of these scenes is bordered within a continuous concentric square border.
