Description
A tile (English, late 19th to early 20th century) attributed to Mintons China Works, Stoke-on-Trent. The tile is hand painted with a nursery rhyme scene. It is inscribed in red on the top left corner “Pipe thee high / Pipe thee low”, to the right of center two small children dance on a grassy hill, on the lower left another small child sits on a fence and plays the horn. On the reverse it is marked in pencil “Vilar” (or possibly “Vilas”) and the number “12.”
