Description
A Chinese export tea pot and tea caddy (Chinese, 19th century). The pieces are decorated in blue, iron-red, and gilt on a white ground.
.1ab (Teapot w/cover): The lid of the tea pot has a raised fruit shaped finial surrounded by a wave dot border and a blue band with gilt stars. This band is repeated around the opening rim, attached to the body is a twisted handle with raised leaf forms, the front of the body is painted with a circular reserve containing a floral spray surrounded by a circular blue band with gilt stars and a wave dot border. Around the base is a wave dot border.
.2 (Tea Caddy): The tea caddy is of rectangular form with rounded shoulders, the shoulders are decorated with a blue band and wavy red dot border with floral clusters. The front of the caddy is painted with an armorial flower shield surrounded by ermine mantling and topped by two birds holding a wreath. The base is decorated with a blue puce dot border.
