Description
A bronze sculpture entitled “Il Ratto Precoce” (Italian, c. 1910) signed L. Luparilli and cast by the Ferdinando Marinelli Foundry, Florence. The sculpture is in the form of two putti, one lifts the other off the ground. The putto being lifted grabs the hair of the other and raises their right arm toward the sky. The circular base is signed “L. LUPARILLI / IL RATTO PRECOCE” and bears a raised oval metal seal inscribed “F. MARINELLI / FONDERIA / FIRENZE”
The composition of the figures seems to have been inspired by Bernini’s “The Rape of Proserpina.”
