Description
A pair of Japanese Satsuma pottery plates (Japanese, c. 1890) signed Seikozan. Each is decorated around the rim with a finely executed enamel design of a diamyo procession bordered by a narrow key fret band at the outer rim and a petal band at cavetto. The cavetto is decorated with panels resembling textile patterns. The center of .1 is decorated with a winter scene featuring a boatman on a body of water and snow covered trees and hills, a central medallion (mon) contains a gilt hollyhock crest. The center of .2 is decorated with a spring landscape featuring a stream, pine trees, and hills,. A central medallion (mon) contains two gilt flying plovers. The reverse of the plates are signed with the calligraphy mark of Seikozan in gold on red enamel.
