Description
A Chinese export covered vegetable dish on stand (Chinese, 18th century). The cover has a raised gilt floral pod finial and two boars head side handles. All of the pieces are decorated with the heraldic/armorial crest of a horse or deer sitting beneath a tree with a banner motto reading “Vixea Nostra Voco” (Latin for “I scarcely call these things our own”), the banner surrounds the script monogram “JCH.” The rim of the plate and body of the dish and cover are decorated with sepia landscape medallions and reserves of gold surrounded by a floral blue border. A gilt Greek key band surrounds the edge of the plate, and the rims of the dish and cover. Similar in design to pieces produced by Royal Worcester.
