"Echo"

late 19th Century

A Royal Vienna style portrait/cabinet plate entitled “Echo” (Austrian, late 19th century) signed Kantler. The plate is painted at center with the bust portrait of a young dark-haired woman in a white gown with her hands raised to her mouth as if calling. Her portrait is set against a background with leaves and brush. The plate is signed “Kantler” on the bottom right by her elbow. The rim is decorated with an elaborate gilt border of stylized curvilinear Art Nouveau floral designs. The plate is marked on the reverse with a 3 zoned shield/beehive mark in under-glaze blue.
