Description
A Louis XVI style guéridon (French, c. 1895) attributed to the Parisian furniture maker Henry Dasson (French, 1825-1896), done in the manner of Jean Henri Riesener (French, 1734-1806). The table has an oval rouge marble top inset in an ormolu rim overlaid with an entwined floral chain interrupted by four mercury masks above the legs. The table is supported by four slender cylindrical legs overlaid with ormolu spiral foliage and topped with foliate capitals. The legs terminate in ormolu pied-de-biche (curved cloven hoofs) and are joined by an ormolu curvilinear stretcher decorated with beading and centered with a boss chiseled with a wreath of laurel leaves bound with ribbon.
