A 16th century style inlaid Renaissance center table (Italian, 16th century, and French, late 19th century) created from assembled pieces by or for the Parisian art dealer Frederic Spitzer (1815-1890) ca. 1880 and reworked by the design firm Jules Allard and Sons, Paris. The removable square top comes from the inlaid back panel of a 16th century choir stall seat from the Lombardy region. Inlaid with various natural and stained woods, the center panel depicts a gentleman accompanied by a dog with another figure before a wall with buildings visible through a gateway, this is framed by an inner scrolling foliate border and an outer border of square panels veneered to simulate beveled cabochons. The quadrangular base is comprised of a 16th century Italian architectural model or tempietto base. It is formed with free-standing fluted columns at the corners and half-round fluted columns and arches on a platform base. Above the arches male heads emanate from circular portals. The center of the base is inlaid with a quatrefoil scrolling foliage design. The whole rests on four ringed bun feet.
