Description
A Louis XVI style white-painted bedroom suite (American, late 19th century) designed by Ogden Codman, Jr. (American, 1863-1951) and attributed to the manufacturer A. H. Davenport Co., Boston and East Cambridge, MA. The set is comprised of:
A pair of tall chests-of-drawers, each with five drawers and a mottled grey marble top. The front corners of the chests are carved with chain bandings, the drawer faces are outlined with a band of floral molding and are each fitted with two drop handle pulls, the shaped apron is carved with curling leaves and a central flower-head medallion. The drawers are raised on four short block fluted tapered legs.
A slant front writing desk, with laurel leaf and chain bandings. The top is fitted with four small drawers, each with a knob pull, these are flanked by flower-head paterae. The slant front opens to reveal interior drawers and compartments. Below the slant front are drawers fitted with drop handles and foliate escutcheons. The desk is supported by four block fluted tapered legs.
A 5-drawer dressing table, the front is carved with chain bandings, the drawers are fitted with foliate escutcheons above drop handles. The table is supported by four block fluted tapered legs.
A two-drawer dressing table with a mottled grey marble top.
