Description
A four-fold carved gilt wood screen (American, late 19th century) designed by Ogden Codman, Jr. (American, 1863-1951) and attributed to the manufacturer A. H. Davenport Co., Boston and East Cambridge, MA. The four panels are carved with a border of spiral ribbon and beading, the tops are surmounted by carved trophies, and block flower heads decorate the corners. The front of each panel is broken up into two sections, the top contains a color print of a young lady by William Unger (German, 1837-1932) and the bottom is lined with striped material in old gold with floral sprays. The reverse is covered with brown pleated material. The colored prints depict ladies of the French and English courts of the 18th century, all are signed “W. Unger” on the bottom right.
