Description
A mahogany-framed wing settee (American, late 19th century) designed by Ogden Codman, Jr. (American, 1863-1951) and attributed to the manufacturer A. H. Davenport Co., Boston and East Cambridge, MA. The settee has a tall back and shaped cresting flaked by shaped wings that descend to roll-over armrests with curved supports. The back, armrests, and seat rail are fully upholstered in red/rose floral damask. The long rectangular seat has a loose cushion covered in the same damask; the corners of the cushion are trimmed with gold tasseled fringe. The seat rail is decorated with hanging tasseled fringe. The settee is supported by four legs, the front two of which are cabriole in shape, carved with foliage at the knees, and end in ball and claw feet.
