Description
A Louis XVI style ormolu and marble garniture set (French, 19th century) with the clock movement made by Raingo Frères of Paris (French, founded in 1823). The set is composed of a clock (.1) and two candelabra (.2a-d-.3a-d).
.1 – The clock is housed in a blue enameled globe decorated with ormolu fleur-de-lys and surmounted by a pair of ormolu doves. A plate attached below the 12 of the clock-face reads “RAINGO FRE.” The globe is supported by the raised arms of three ormolu putti, each standing with one foot on a short white marble column draped with festoons of ormolu flowers. The column ends in a square base surrounded by an ormolu foliate collar.
.2a-d-.3a-d – The pair of three-light candelabra are in the form of a curling floral spray with three sockets rising from a vase held aloft by a putto standing on a marble circular pedestal with foliate moldings and square bases.
