Description
A pair of porcelain vases (French, dated 1878) made by the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory. The vases are of ovoid form with white glazed necks, removable covers topped by acorn knobs, and circular pedestal bases decorated with gilding on a white ground. The bodies are painted on the front with female figures enveloped in flowing robes holding arrows and attended by putti against a grey ground, the backs are painted with baskets of flowers suspended from bow-knotted ribbons in tones of pink, yellow, green, and blue, the sides depict open urns filled with foliage with a blue banner hanging below marked “E AP.” The undersides are marked in red with the circular Sèvres seal mark and read “DECORE A SEVRES / RF / 78.”
