Description
A pair of Louis XV style fauteuils and a pair of Louis XV style side chairs (American, late 19th century) designed by Ogden Codman, Jr. (American, 1863-1951) and attributed to the manufacturer A. H. Davenport Co., Boston and East Cambridge, MA. Both the fauteuils and side chairs have grey painted frames and are upholstered in old gold floral needlework. The fauteuils (.1-.2) have richly carved frames with rococo ornament, shaped pierced backs with upholstered panels, padded open armrests on curved supports, and stand on four cabriole legs. The side chairs (.3-.4) have molded shaped backs with cane panels surmounted by rocaille cresting, upholstered seats, four cabriole legs carved at the knees with foliate decoration, and a shaped seat rail carved at center with rocaille decoration.
