Description
A Louis XVI style side chair (French, 19th century) composed of gilt-wood with a loose seat cushion upholstered in green velvet. The chair has a rectangular open shaped back, caned seat, and four tapered fluted legs. Its use as a music chair is reflected in its elaborate back splat which is in the form of a lyre with crossed reed instruments surrounded by a floral wreath. The back is surmounted by a crest in the form of a crossed torch and arrow quiver surrounded by a bouquet. Bud finials top the chair’s back corners. The seat rail is decorated with a spiral ribbon molded edge and block corners with raised flowerheads.
