Description
Eight Louis XV revival gilded bronze wall sconces (French, c. 1900) made by Maison Baguès, Paris, installed in the first-floor gallery of The Elms. Each sconce has a long rectangular, tapered backplate surmounted by an urn, the backplates are accented with chiseled diaperwork, cherub masks, bell flowers, and flanked by scrolling acanthus leaves. Emanating from the backplate are five squared S-scroll acanthus clad candle arms, each terminating in a large circular drip pan chased with a stiff leaf pattern below a circular candle cup with a flame-shape frosted glass shade.
