Description
A pair of Louis XIV revival carved giltwood console tables (French, c.1900) from the workshops of Jules Allard & Sons, Paris. Each has a rectangular oblong brèche violette marble top resting on an egg and dart molded border above a frieze carved with lattice and floral motifs with a large hanging cartouche at center decorated with three fleurs-de-lis flanked by two helmeted female warriors draped with laurels. The two front legs are carved with female figures (caryatids) on floral decorated S-scrolls, the two back legs are similar but without the female figures. The legs are joined by an X-shaped stretcher carved with acanthus leaves and bellflower with a raised military helmet flanked by eagle heads, oak leaves, and acorns in the center. The legs terminate in eight foliate block feet.
