Description
A pair of Louis XV style Kakiemon-imitation ormolou-mounted porcelain vases with covers and contemporary mounts (French, 19th century) made by Edmé Samson (French, 1810-1891). The front and reverse of the bulbous bodies are painted with enamel decoration of flower-filled baskets in famille verte style on a white glossy glaze ground decorated with polychrome butterflies. The white hard paste porcelain vases are contained in Louis XV style ormolu mounts, the sides are flanked by a pair of scrolling ormolu term handles with helmeted female heads, the conforming lids are surmounted by raised foliate ormolu finials, and the whole is raised on a pierced ormolu foliate foot.
