Description
A crystal epergne (centerpiece) (Bohemian, c. 1880) with gold trim and etched foliage decoration, in the form of a flared vase above a central dish raised on a pedestal base. The vase opening and central dish have a scalloped rim edged with gold leaf. The epergne is monogrammed "WM" for Ward McAllister (American, 1827-1895) around the central dish.

Ward McAllister (born Samuel Ward McAllister in 1827) was a prominent social figure and tastemaker in New York from the 1860s - 1890s. He was known for helping to transform Newport into a Gilded Age resort and for coining the phrase "the Four Hundred."
