Description
A painted fan (French, 19th century) housed in a giltwood case. The fan has a central oval medallion of Marie Antoinette and border medallions of members of the Royal family and ladies of the court. The artist’s signature “M. Danys” is contained in the central medallion on the right above Marie Antoinette’s shoulder. Gold painted floral swags and flower filler urns surround the medallions. The reverse is similarly decorated, though the medallions contain floral sprigs and a central flower filled urn rather than portraits. The fan shaped giltwood case is slightly angled, paned with glass, and stands on a square base.
