Description
A Louis XIV white metal, brass, and copper tankard (French, c. 1700) with a tapering copper body and hinged lid surmounted by a stylized lion in a scrolling acanthus and diaperwork surround. The scalloped brass rim is accented with a wave motif. The hinged lid connects to a strap handle on the side. The lower portion is decorated with curved gadrooning. The whole sits on a circular spread foot.
