A pair of musician figurines (French, late 19th century) made by Samson et Cie, Montreuil, France. The pair depict a female and male musician, each stands on a white and gold scroll molded base and leans against a flowering hedge. The undersides of the bases are marked with a pseudo Derby Porcelain mark (of a crowned “D” with crossed batons) in iron-red.
.1 = Depicts a girl in a blue and gold floral printed skirt with a green bodice playing a zither.
.2 = Depicts a boy in raspberry striped breeches, a gold and red shirt printed shirt, and a blue and gold cape playing the tambourine.
The Samson et Cie factory was founded by Edmé Samson (French, 1810-1891) with the intention of creating reproduction ceramics from famous manufactures, especially Sevres, Meissen, Royal Worcester, Derby, and Chinese Export wares.
