Description
A pair of figurine groupings of lovers (French, late 19th century) in the Dresden style though likely made by Samson et Cie, Montreuil, France. Each piece has two figures in 18th century dress standing on an oval mound base lightly molded with gilt scrollwork.
.1 = Depicts a couple playing Blind Man's Bluff. The male figure wears a blue waistcoat over light brown striped breeches. His right arm is wrapped around his partner’s waist, his left arm holds a hat at his side, and his face is turned into the woman’s neck. The female figure has a blue blindfold which has been pulled up over her eyes, is posed with her arms outstretched, and wears a pink bodice with a pink on white floral printed skirt. The underside of the base is impressed “109” and is marked in blue with a pseudo Meissen mark of crossed swords above the letter “s.”
.2 = Depicts a dancing couple. The male figure wears a tan hat, pink breeches, and a green jacket with a floral printed waistcoat. He is posed slightly bent at the knees, reaching for his partner’s waist. The female figure wears a lavender bodice with a black panel, a floral printed apron, and a yellow stiped skirt. She is posed with her left arm on her hip and her right arm extended forward into her partner. The underside of the base is impressed “97” and is marked in blue with a pseudo Meissen mark of crossed swords above the letter “s.”
