Description
A high-backed armchair (French, 18th century) composed of fruitwood and upholstered in 19th century needlepoint. The angled rectangular back leads to scrolled foliate armrest on fluted supports, the square seat is raised on four block turned legs carved with flower heads. The legs are connected by a cylindrical turned and fluted cross-stretcher and a cylindrical turned H-stretcher. The back and seat are upholstered in a foliate needlepoint in shades of blue, green, grey, red, and gold against a light-yellow ground secured with tacks.
