Description
A pair of glazed pottery garden seats (Italian, Naples, c. 1800) with square tops and animalistic bases. The square tops are painted as false Roman mosaic works in black glaze against a cream-colored ground, the top of .1 depicts a medusa head in a central medallion surrounded by birds and dogs, the top of .2 depicts two hunting dogs and a wild boar (after a mosaic found in the House of the Boar, Pompeii). The bases are in the form of four winged lions/wolves on monopodium feet raised on shaped marbleized plinths.
