Description
A punch bowl (English, c. 1880) attributed to Minton & Co., Stoke-on-Trent, England. The bowl stands on a footed base with three raised dolphins, seaweed, coral, and seashells painted with overglaze polychrome decoration. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with a wrap-around frieze of putti playing music and imbibing in wine. The interior rim has a border of bountiful grapevines, and the center depicts a scene of three reveling putti draped with grape vines and a fawn with a tambourine. The underside is marked with “809”, “3”, and an impressed “C.” This bowl originally comes from the collection at Baldwin Cottage (aka ‘Chateau-Nooga’).
