Description
A pair of American Queen Anne side chairs (Massachusetts or Rhode Island, c. 1740-1790). The chairs have open backs centering on a solid urn-form splat below a shaped crest rail, the scalloped seat rails are supported by four legs joined by stretchers. The two cabriole front legs terminate in pad feet, and the two chamfered and splayed back legs terminate in block feet. The square slip seats are covered in a modern red cotton moire fabric. The legs are joined by spindle and block turned H-shaped stretchers and a single rear stretcher.
