Description
A mahogany veneer knife box (American, c. 1780) with a rounded front and straight back supported on three ball and claw feet. The sides of the knife box are fitted with brass bail handles. The hinged slope top has an elaborate brass key escutcheon accented with a hinged clasp and a brass loop handle on a pierced quatrefoil mount. The interior of the box is lined with red velvet and fitted with thirty-seven compartments of varying size with gold ribbon borders around the compartment openings.
