Description
A Chippendale pole screen (American, Newport, c. 1780-1790) composed of mahogany with an octagonal screen of early 19th century silk embroidery. The embroidery is housed in a mahogany frame covered with glass, the embroidery depicts a cornucopia overflowing with fruit on a blue and cream striped ground and black silk background surrounded by a circular scalloped border. The screen has two adjustable brass brackets on its back and sits on a tall pole with an urn shaped finial. The pole ends in an urn form and is raised on an arched tripod base ending in snake feet.
