Description
A pair of Queen Anne side chairs (American, Newport, c. 1740-90) with frames composed of maple. Each chair has a spooned back centered on a solid vase-form splat above a flaring seat with rounded corners. A scrolled apron encases a slip seat covered in a celadon cotton fabric. The whole is raised on four legs, the front two are cabriole in shape terminating in pad feet, the square rear legs have chamfered corners, are splayed at the bottom, and end in block feet. The legs are joined by H-shape spindle and block turned stretchers, and a single ring turned rear stretcher.
