Chinese Export Famille-rose Punch Bowl

A Chinese export famille-rose punch bowl (Chinese, c. 1770) with a low circular foot base. The punch bowl is painted on the exterior with an iron-red and black cell diaper ground with cartouche shaped panels. The two larger panels contain scenes of figures in harbor landscapes, one depicts a fisherman holding a net on a pier with watching nearby figures, the reverse depicts a fisherman and a dignitary crossing a bridge. The two smaller side panels depict birds on branches and in flight. The interior rim of the bowl is decorated with a coral and gold key-fret border and the center of the bowl is painted with a floral spray with pink blooms and green foliage.
