Description
An inkstand (German, c. 1760) in the style of Meissen and Sèvres, composed of porcelain and mounted in ormolu. The inkstand is decorated with white circles highlighted with blue dots against a green ground, the base of the stand and the corresponding lidded inkpots are painted with a gilt foliate border, this border surrounds musical instrument trophies on the inkpots and a cupid/putto figure on the base in red/purple glaze. Between the inkpots is a square tapered column supporting a bearded, robed figure. The inkstand is set in an oblong metal base with a raised border of acanthus leaves, the whole stands on four feet. The underside is marked with a pseudo Sèvres double L mark in blue underglaze and “2000” in purple.
