Description
A partial dinner service and glassware set (English, 1868-1921), the dinner service was made by Cauldon Ltd. and retailed by Mortlock’s of Oxford Street, London. The pieces of the dinner service are decorated with the Wetmore family symbol of a perched falcon and George Peabody Wetmore’s (1846-1921) monogram in celadon against a pearl luster glaze ground and an applied gold rim. The service is original to Chateau-sur-Mer.
The dinner service is composed of:
.1 = A dinner plate (c. 1868) with a scalloped rim. The reverse is marked with a diamond English registry mark in black, a green crowned retailer mark reading “JOHN MORTLOCK / OXFORD STREET / POTTERY GALLERIES / ORCHARD ST / LONDON”, and an iron-red mark reading “a / 9595.” (dia. = 10 3/8”)

.4 = A large serving platter with a scalloped rim. The underside is marked “CAULDON / England” in black and “CAULDON CHINA” in purple above an oval floral wreath containing the retailer mark “Mortlock’s / Oxford Street.” (13 3/8” x 16 7/8’ x 1 ½”)
.5-6 = Two butter plates (c. 1868) with a scalloped rim. (dia. = 6 ½”)
.7 = A porridge bowl (c. 1900). The underside is marked in green with the retailer’s mark “Mortlock’s / Oxford Street / 1888” surrounded by a floral wreath and an iron-red mark reading “a / 9595.” (2 ½” x 6 ½” x 6 ½”)
.8= A soup bowl (dia. 10")
.9= A fruit bowl (c. 1869) with handles. (10 ½” x 9”)
.10-.11= A demitasse cup and saucer (c. 1900). (.10, cup = 2 3/8” x 2 ½” x 3 3/8”; .11, saucer = dia. 4 7/8”)

.37-.42= Six cocktail glass (c. 1920s) with an Art Deco wheel cut monogram (3 ¼” x 2 7/8” x 2 7/8”)

.51-.52= Two sherry glasses with an etched monogram (4 5/16” x 2” x 2”)
.53-.55= Three cordial glasses with an etched rim, falcon, and “GPW” monogram. (3 ½” x 1 7/8” x 1 7/8”)
