The subject, Iris Vanderbilt Smith Paine (American, 1927-2006), granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt II and the grandniece of Theresa Fair Oelrichs of Rosecliff, is depicted seated in a domestic interior against a neutral background. She wears a white satin evening gown and is flanked by her black standard poodle and bichon. The canvas is signed and dated on the bottom right corner. It is housed in a bleached, gilded rococo style frame with carved floral motifs.
