“Portrait of a Gentleman” (English, c. 1884) by Edward Harrison May (English, 1824-1887). The unknown subject is depicted at bust length against a dark background. The sitter wears a black coat, a blue cravat tacked in the center with a round blue stone pin, and a white shirt collar, they have a large mustache and long sideburns. The canvas is inscribed on the back “E. H. May, Paris 1884.”
