Description
An etching entitled “David” (French, c. 1884) by Félix Bracquemond (French, 1833-1914) after the painting “King David” by Gustave Moreau (French, 1826-1898). The etching depicts an aged King David seated upon his throne in his palace, the large ornate columns behind King David frame a landscape view, at David’s feet sits an angel with his lyre, broken flowers are scattered along the throne steps. Below the image is printed “PEINT PAR GUSTAVE MOREAU / Imp. A. Salmon / GRAVÉ PAR BRACQUEMOND” and the title “DAVID.”
The original work on which this etching is based was unveiled by the French Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau at the 1878 Paris World’s Fair.
