Description
A preliminary drawing of the Marble Hall at Chateau-sur-Mer (American, c. 1914) by architect John Russell Pope (American, 1874-1937). The view shows the western end with furniture arranged in groups like a sitting room, the drawing is close to the finished appearance of the hall as it is today. George Peabody Wetmore hired John Russell Pope to transform the original entrance of the house into the Marble Hall. Pope would go on to build the National Archives Building in DC, as well as the Jefferson Memorial.
