Description
A pastel portrait of Walter Langdon Kane (American, c. 1860) by an unknown artist. The portrait depicts the mustachioed Walter Langdon Kane (American, 1843-1896) at three-quarter length seated against a romantic landscape background, he wears a tan jacket, grey pants, and holds a pair of grey gloves in his lap. The portrait is housed in a rectangular giltwood frame with a circular opening. Kane was the son of Louisa Dorothea Langdon (1820-1894) and Oliver DeLancey Kane, in 1877 Kane married Miss Mary Roach Hunter. The couple resided in Newport at Mayfield on Bellevue Avenue (later Stonor Lodge).
