Two pastel sketches on artist board of Chateau-sur-Mer and its landscape (American, 1920) by Hezekiah Anthony Dyer (American, 1872-1943). The first (.1) depicts the west elevation of the property looking up at the house’s exterior, the second (.2) depicts the lawn with varied tree specimens. Each is signed “H. A. Dyer” on the bottom right corner. Both are original to Chateau-sur-Mer and were hung in the Marble Hall during Edith Wetmore’s tenure.
Dyer was a well-known landscape painter from Providence, RI. He studied at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, later becoming a lecturer at each. Dyer was also a prominent member of the Providence Art Club, the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters, and the Newport Art Association.
