“Rural Landscape” (American, c. 1900) by Charles H. Davis (American, 1856-1933). The canvas depicts a violet-tinged pale blue atmospheric sky with rough-edged clouds hanging over a New England agricultural landscape. The softly contoured hills in the foreground and background are separated by drystone walls with a cluster of farm buildings, from which emanate chimney smoke, on the right edge of a light dappled vale. The canvas is signed “C.H. Davis” on the lower left.
