Description
A figure of Zhongli Quan (Chung-li Ch’üan) (Chinese, Qing Dynasty, 18th century) composed out of greyish-red steatite (soapstone) and raised on a tall conforming silk covered base. The figure of Zhongli Quan, one of the Eight Daoist Immortals, is depicted with a long black beard, reclining against a cloth-covered bundle. He wears robes decorated with cloud forms, has a large belly, and holds a fan under his right arm and holds a long-tasseled cord in his left hand. The removable base is covered in floral patterned silk.
