A carved figurine (Chinese, 20th century) composed out of blue and white lapis. The figurine is in the form of a dog like lion, known popularly in the West as a foo dog (or fu dog), surrounded by two smaller creatures (one on its head and one on its hind quarters). In its mouth the figure holds a rope attached to a ball. The whole is raised on a carved wooden stand.
