Description
A plate (English, 1883) made by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons in the Aesthetic Movement taste. The majolica plate is sectioned into six panels decorated with chrysanthemum stalks against a black/dark green stippled ground, the chrysanthemums alternate in white, purple, and yellow. The panels are separated by cross-hatched turquoise rays terminating in a circular turquoise well ringed in yellow at the center of the plate, the rim of the plate is also glazed in yellow. The underside of the plate is stamped “WEDGWOOD” along with the date code “SVL”, indicting an 1883 production date, the letter “R”, and written in red is “3272 / 17.”
