Description
A plate (English, c. 1864) from the “Seasons” series by William Adams & Sons, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The salt glazed stoneware plate is decorated with a red transfer print. The center depicts a scene titled “FEBRUARY” of a man shoveling outside a castle wall, the rim is decorated with four allegorical female figures representing the four seasons and groupings of fruit and flowers. The rim of the plate has a slight scalloped edge. The reverse of the plate is impressed “ADAMS / 80” and marked with a red transfer “SEASONS” mark.
