Description
A plate (English, 1875) manufactured by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons. The majolica plate has a scalloped edge and is formed with various raised textures. The center is decorated with a raised lattice basketweave ground in yellow glaze, this is encircled by a band of oak leaves, surrounding this a grape vine border against a white/cream ground with an incised crosshatched texture on the inner rim and stippling with beaded scalloped bands on the outer rim. The underside is impressed “WEDGWOOD” along with the date code “NOD”, indicating an 1875 manufacture date, and the single letter “J”, it is numbered in black “2885”.
