Description
A dinner plate (English, c. 1895) decorated in the “Edinburgh” pattern, made by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons, Etruria, England. The polychrome transferware plate is decorated in the Aesthetic Movement taste, the central decoration depicts an urn filled with pink peonies and purple plum blossoms, a branch with chirping yellow birds overhangs a moonlight vignette of a cabin by a body of water in green against a white ground. The rim is decorated with an arrangement of colorful concentric borders. The underside is impressed “WEDGWOOD”, stamped in black “EDINBURGH / WEDGWOOD / ETRURIA, ENGLAND”, and marked in red under glaze “A4458 / N”.
